  • Setup Hyena 6.7e on Citrix PS 3 2005.04 W2k3 sp1

I am installing hyena on our ts for our admin staff. We have 3 licenses and will allow only 3 staff to use it. It looks like i will have to allow full access to some of the files in the hyena directory but i want to check here first. So far we have only run into problems with hyena_exporter_pro.dat and hyenarpt.mdb. Do i have to give users full access to these two files? Are there others? Is there a setting I can use to have each user with their own? Any other settings required to get hyena to work. Thanks for any advice.

You can change the location of these files in Hyena under Tools->Settings->Reporting.

Thanks for your answer. I am looking at that now.

Are there any other files/settings that are changed to make this all work on TS?

Not that I can think of. The majority of information goes into each users profile directory, so that should be it.

          Hi, What about this file
          Hyena_exporter_pro.ini and export.ini

I noticed that they have things like ExportUserFile=c:\users.txt and the like. As a terminal server we don't allow users to write to the root. Would I change these ini files to point to something in thier profile?

When you use Exporter Pro you can specify the output file and location for each export that you run.

So what i have found is that the file hyena_exporter_pro.dat is not in the package and gets generated when someone with admin rights first runs the exporter. I tried copying this file to the location defined in the user settings "exporter pro configuration file directory path" and removing the file from the program files\hyena directory. I get an error saying can't "unable to open hyena config file c:\program files\Hyena\Hyena_exporter_pro.dat" Can you tell me if I am doing something wrong? Or if in fact I do have to have that dat file in 2 locations?

              Thank you

The hyena_exporter_pro.dat and hyena_exporter_pro.ini files are always created in the installation directory. These are essentially temporary files that get created or overwritten each time. They contain the items that are selected to be exported when you select Tools->Exporter Pro->Export From Selected Objects. The .INI file contains the options that you select to export if you are not using another configuration file.

We will probably have to change this behavior in the near future as Windows Vista may not allow these files to be created. I anticipate that the .DAT file may have to be written either to the Windows temp directory or to the user's profile directory where the other files are located.

So the users need write access to those 2 files in c:\program files\hyena directory?

Yes, at least until we determine if this needs to change due to Windows Vista. If we change it, then these files will be created/written to in the user's profile directory.

The only other files that I can think of that are written to are the .rcm files for remote control (if used/enabled) and the Access database .mdb file. However, the locations of these files can be changed under Tools->Settings.

One last problem (thanks for all your help on this by the way).
Since the .dat and ini files are created dynamically does the user have to have full rights to the hyena directory? IF the file does not already exist I can't give all users rights to a file that is not there. Can I precreate the files and give them rights to those files without problems?

I don't think they need full rights to the directory, but they have to be able to read the files at least, plus you would need to move the .mdb file too. I also am not sure where Access would store the .ldb file that it usually creates, but I assume that would be the same directory where the .mdb file is located.

The .ini file is modified if it already exists, so just creating one manually should be all you would need to do. However, the hyena_exporter_pro.dat file is opened with a Windows function that handles the creation/deletion of the file. I assume what the Windows function does is reset the file pointer if the file already exists, so again, if you just create an empty file, you should be OK.
