  • Terminal Server error message.

    Hello,

I've installed Windows 2003 on my desktop. When I open a user his properties and click on his 'terminal' tab. I get the following error: "Error getting terminal server data. The parameter is incorrect.". After I install Terminal Server from Windows components, I can open the 'Terminal' tab. But when I reboot my desktop, I get the error message back. I hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance.

    I use Hyena 5.2C

          Re: Terminal Server error message.

I've determined that this is not a Hyena problem but rather appears to be a bug in the Microsoft terminal interface (.dll) that is being used.

Our support group will post further instructions on how to isolate the problem.

I'm having the same problems with my Hyena Enterprise version 6.6. I'm running the program on a W2K3 server with SP1. It's not a domain-controller, but just a member-server. Any idea's anyone??

              Re: Terminal Server error message.

The solution is to find the following dlls and copy them into your Hyena directory:

              regapi.dll 7/22/98
              utildll.dll 7/22/98
              winsta.dll 7/22/98

We can't distribute these files, so you should be able to find them on your Terminal Server, or may need to search for a source for them.

This is not a very helpful reply.
I have this Problem too on W2K3 SP1.
I think you should change your api calls to the new one.
It's not a good solution to have different dll's for the same reason.

                  Re: Terminal Server error message.

I'm not clear what we are supposed to do differently. These particular .dll files are not redistributable by anyone, so we can't include them in our setup. We do distribute the one file that is needed wtsapi32.dll, but this file needs the other three files referenced above. I think Microsoft puts versions that don't work for server administration on a standard XP installation, and these are installed in the system32 directory. You could copy the files there if you want to, but you would overwrite the versions that Microsoft gave you.

When setting the terminal server properties, we use the only interface available to us in these files. There isn't any way to make the function call 'differently' and make it works; the default .dll files just don't work for managing remote servers.

Hey rad2406, I can't let your post go without a comment.

I have never had support like I get from Kevin & Chuck. If there was a way to make it work better it would already be done, or they would tell you that they were working on it.

Personally, I think it was an extremely helpful reply. It told you specifically what files you needed.

                    Just my opinion.

                      Re: Terminal Server error message.

Right now, I would say that this particular problem is the biggest pain in the %$#% type of problem that we have. If anyone gets this error, please zip the three (3) .dll files that are referenced previously, and send them to [email protected]. Also indicate what system you got them off of.

I'll then try to duplicate the problem, find what versions these files are, and call Microsoft to find out what is the deal.

I have the correct files here, but can't legally give them to someone, even if they have the same 'bad' versions. Its a stupid problem.

But the only resolution that we know of is to grab the files from a working server, and not use the workstation versions.

I have the same issue trying to access the Terminal tab of a user properties. The error message is "Error getting terminal server data. The parameter is incorrect".

I am sending a screen shot and a zipped file containing these DLLs: regapi.dll, utildll.dll and winsta.dll. Thank you.

This is still a lingering error now on version 7.7 on Vista SP1.

                          Any ideas for a resolution?

Scratch that. Found a solution just a few posts down

Sorry, used Google to get here so I didn't initially view the post list.

                              Hi,

I like to re-open this post as I get that same error message. Tried with the dll's as prescribed earlier in this thread, but without success. Is there any solution to this problem, as this limits the functionality of Hyena a lot? Just disabling this message isn't a real solution.
I'm on Windows 7 wth latest Hyena version 8.0d and facing this similar problem on two different installations now. Before had it under Vista too.

                              Thank you very much!
