  • ms-DS-ConsistencyGuid appears as gibberish on attribute view or export

I was using 13.x and have paid to upgrade to 14.x to check if it is the same (it is), but if using powershell to show this field, it appears as a normal GUID, eg 5308f93c-4356-401d-b078-9833022f7642 but in the Hyena export or viewing attributes, it looks like this

    ø:Ür´gÏG¹ä?V

    Is this a bug?

    Thanks in advance

This isn't really a bug, but a limitation in Hyena not being able to determine that this attribute is a GUID, other than it appearing in the name. Microsoft stores GUIDs into binary data types, so we have no choice but to hardcode the known GUID data types. Not a good solution. We will add this to the list for the upcoming next release. In the meantime, you might be able to go to Settings > Advanced, and set the value of 'BinaryDisplayFormat' to one of these values, to see if it gets you something readable. Let me know if it does. Thanks for alerting us to this new attribute.

    1 : Base64, without headers

2 : Pure binary copy (not recommended)

3 : Base64, with request beginning and ending headers

    4 : Hexadecimal only

5 : Hexadecimal, with ASCII character display

9 : Base64, with X.509 CRL beginning and ending headers

    10: Hexadecimal, with address display

11: Hexadecimal, with ASCII character and address display

    12: A raw hexadecimal string

12 is probably the most legible.. thanks for that. Is there any way to change this in Exporter? Thanks

We are updating Exporter Pro to handle the same GUIDs as Hyena in v14.4, which should be out mid August. Let me know if that is what you meant by 'Exporter'. Thanks

Thanks, I will let you know next week where to get the update, which I would appreciate it if you could test as we do not have this attribute.

Can you verify the exact spelling of this attribute? If its set for a given user, you can right click on that user, and select View all Directory Attributes from the menu. I am assuming that the attribute is spelled:

              mS-DS-ConsistencyGuid

Normally, these ms-ds attributes are spelled as one word, ie "msds", and not "ms-ds".

The doc is here, but was unsure if there is a typo:

This attribute is used to check consistency between the directory and another object, database, or application, by comparing GUIDs.

              Thanks for your help

sorry, I was going by the 'view attributes' in Hyena.. it shows as ms-DS-ConsistenctGuid.. it is the only one that isn't MsDS. Here is a Microsoft article that talks about the Attribute and confirms the spelling. It is a link between Azure (o365) and on prem AD

Hyena v14.4 should display this attribute as a GUID.
