  • Export Local Printers

I've tried using the create macro method posted some time ago by cmcullough, but I've not had any success. The first issue I have is when I double-click Computers, the items in the right window are all showing blank information.

Anyway I was able to generate a computer list, but I do want to filter out all servers and disabled machine accounts to speed up the process. I cant seem to find the same filter tools that are availble for user accounts. Any suggestions?

    Re: Export Local Printers

Right-click on Computers and choose Query Active Directory->Computer(Detailed). That should display your computers in the right-hand window with more details that you can sort/filter on.

As far as missing data when you click on Computers, go to File->Manage Object View->AD Queries, change the Query Type to Computers. Click on Computer(Summary) and make sure the first two fields are Directory Name and Description.

      Re: Export Local Printers

OK that allowed me to filter out disabled computer accounts, now I need to go back to your macro for getting local printers attached to the machines.

      Thanks

        Re: Export Local Printers

OK I ran your macro procedure but the output is strange. I'm seeing all the server print queues and some client machine printers. I had over 1000 machines in the list and I know over 70% are online. Have I missed something or do I have a settings/config error somewhere? My output file is only 300 rows and this includes the default MS office Document Image Writer and PDF printers...

Give us more details on what exactly you are doing, what you are running, etc.

I am tripping about in Hyena and am on a domain. I need to do exactly what you were asking about here and I can see in some of my trial local printer exports that the information is there, but so far have not hit on the format for the requested export. Would you share your success?

When I run a report in Exporter Pro I include "computer" and "printer". The exported data includes all computers, but not all local printers - I am trying to find certain local printers which are installed on around 40% of the machines here. I am new to exporter, so have not had much experience with what/how I should be querying.

Are you also using Hyena at all? If so, see what it shows for a printer list on some of these computers. We don't have any control over what Windows gives for a list of printers, it might be due to how they are installed, are they shared, etc.
