  • Automatically Import/Use Text Object List In Exporter Pro

I have built a very comprehensive report for Exporter Pro, and I understand how it can use the Object file (INI) as a list of systems to report on.

We want to report on specific servers with a scheduled task, but have the ability to easily update the server list -- preferably a simple text file with just the server names.

Unfortunately the Object file format is not as simple as that, and it might be a challenge for some staff to correcly add/remove lines from it, or have an automated process to update it.

Is there some other method that Exporter Pro supports which could read a simple text file listing of server names (objects)?

    Thanks -- Dana

In Exporter Pro you can use the Import Object File option under the Configuration menu. The file is simply a text file, and the minimum requirement is the computer name. As long as you choose the Type, such as Workstation or Server, the file can simply be:

    Server1
    Server2
    Server3

      Thank you!

Well, I understand this, but that defeats trying to automate this as much as possible. If we have this report running weekly as a scheduled task, it'd be nice for our operators to just add/remove server names from a SERVERS.TXT file and then Exporter reads that file each time it runs. Instead of someone having to manually run Exporter Pro and import the list each week.

Do you know of any way to do that?

      Thanks -- Dana

Re: Automatically Import/Use Text Object List In Exporter Pro

We've added this feature into the current beta version, which should be available next week. A beta version is completely 'safe' to use, as this is a reporting utility.

What we did was add a new object type of "Workstation/Server Include File". You just give the path and the contents are loaded (added) into the current object list.
