  • Connecting to other domains w/Exporter Pro

    Hello,

We are trying to use Exporter Pro to gather active directory info about our clients. We do not have trusts with these domains - we access their domains through secure tunnels. I have domain admin accounts with matching user names and passwords.

When I try to run any active directory reports, I get, "Unable to bind to domain 'XXX.INTERNAL'. Exporting of last logon information aborted. The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted."

The object I created is for a "2000/2003 Domain" and the path I have is "LDAP://xxx.internal".

I am able to RDP to these servers from the same machine and I can use Exporter Pro to gather things like the disk space by creating a server object with the IP address.

Is a trust with these domains required (something we cannot do) or do I need to have DNS entries for the DCs for all the domains, or?

Thank you very much - seems to be a great product that could help us out a lot!

That error sounds more like it's having trouble finding that path. When you create the domain object in Exporter Pro, beside the ADSI Path box is a button with ... Click on that and see if it is able to find the domain, and if so let it put the path in for you. The LDAP://xxx.internal may be an incorrect format for that domain.

Hi and thanks for the speedy reply! When I click the browse button, it does not show me any domains other than our own.

The problem is this domain is not in your DNS. Either it's not there at all, or the way you have it formatted is not there. You'll have to correct that before Exporter Pro can connect to the domain.

Thank you very much. We are now testing adding these domains to our DNS then. I appreciate the help!
