  • Understanding Performance monitor

Is there a guide on Performance monitor tool built into Hyena? I am trying to understand what I am reading when it comes to DISK read and writes on the servers I am monitoring.

    Re: Understanding Performance monitor

Are you using the Performance object under a computer or a performance-related WMI query ? If you are using the Performance object, that information is coming from a performance section in the registry. I don't think that Microsoft has documented much of what these counters mean, but if you search google or microsoft.com for the name of the performance object and the counter name, you might find something.

We can't document this because its all dynamic information coming from Windows.

If you are using WMI, the properties for any given class are associated with sometimes very descriptive information.

Another thing I just tried was to use the Performance option in MMC. When you add an object or counter, there is an 'Explain' button that give some information on what the counter means (don't know where this stuff comes from).

      Re: Understanding Performance monitor

I am using the Performance object under the computer. Shows %Disk Time %Disk Read Time %Disk Write Time Disk Reads/sec Disk Writes/sec

Trying to do a verificatin of what is high or low . I would think the % would be 1-100%. But yet I see 1000 in %Disk Time. So 1000 = what?

I see values > 100 in brief instances, but this is normal. I can see the same values using PerfMon. I would compare the values to Perfmon (open both Hyena and Perfmon at the same time).
