  • Reporting is not working

    Hi

I am having problems when running reports. I am wanting to run a report but my results just include a set of headings and no data. I can do this sucessfully on our old NT network. The report i am trying to run is on a Domain that i can browse through Hyena. I attempt to run a 'Members' report by going to the 'Tools' menu then selecting 'Run Exporter'. I select the correct domain and then go to the members tab and check the tick box. I then select the check boxes for the various options and enter a log file location and name. I click OK and a DOS window opens and says 'Exporter Version 2.7'.

I have not altered anything else, i have just accepted defaults.

I usually then expect a list of servers to appear as the report goes through each server but that has not happened.

I read somewhere that this could be a firewall issue but i have now tried this in a couple of environments and it has done the same thing in both, however if i install the software directly onto the domain controller it runs as expected.

I can view the domain and look at users and groups etc and it even lets me do advanced reports but it will not let me run the report above and this is the one i need.

    Can you help?

    Regards

    Re: Reporting is not working

When you use that option you are using the old Exporter utility, which depends on the Windows Browse List for pretty much everything. So, more than likely you have a browsing issue of some sort for that domain, which would explain why it works when you run it on the controller.

A suggestion would be to use Exporter Pro instead under Tools->Exporter Pro. It has quite a bit more functionality than the other one.

      Re: Reporting is not working

      Hi

Thanks for the speedy response. I have tried to use the advanced reporter but i still have the same problem. I have attempted to use the Active Directory Query Template - Group Members. However, when i run this it comes back with a load of information but it doesn't bring back the full name of any foreign domain groups, just the group names of the domain i am looking at. If i do the simple report on the domain controller, it gives me the names of groups in the foreign domain.

I have also attempted to do the NT/Local Group - Export Group Mambers (even though it is a Win 2003 DC) and i think it has the same problems, i guess this is what it is doing with the basic report.

I'm a bit of a novice with this and the basic report was perfect for what i needed, so i'd like to just run it from there. To get the software installed on a DC in our Production environment will probably not be allowed. I do not it works as i want when installed on the DC though because i installed it in our Solution Centre.

      Thanks again

        Re: Reporting is not working

Can you give more specific details on what problem you are having with Exporter Pro? The Windows NT/Local exports won't work for AD data, so you'll have to use the Active Directory exports.

          Re: Reporting is not working

          Hi

I am managing to get it to run reports using the advaced reports but they do not report as i would like them to and as well as the basic ones (this is probably due to my lack of understanding).

I need to do a regular member report so i can get all the memberships for:
          'Domain Global Group Members'
          'Domain Local Group Members'
          'Server Local Group Members'

There are some 'Domain Local Groups' that have 'Domain Global Groups' that belong to a foreign domain. The advanced reports do not display the name of the group in the 'distinguishedname'. It only shows the SID for the group name and i need it to display the full group name. Could this be because i didn't have the Windows Server 2003 Admin Pack insalled on the desktop i am running the reports from?

Please let me know if you need any further info. I will try again tomorrow on a desktop after i have installed Windows Server 2003 Admin Pack for XP and let you know the outcome.

Thanks again, it's home time in the UK now :-)

Find one of these groups in Hyena and send a screenshot of it's properties to [email protected].
