New user problem with Create New Object

-New user just trying to get started with Exporter Pro-

I am trying to follow along in the online help.

I have created a brand new configuration. I have created a folder so I can specify output file paths for all the fields that need it in the properties.

I have enabled several Export options.

The next step is to add new objects. No dice.
I can select edit/new object or click on the new object button and nothing happens. No error. No object properties window.

Any help at this point would be appreciated.

Also, are there any detailed how to examples anywhere? I saw an older post (2004) that indicated that examples were going to be added but I can't find them.

This is a problem in the GUI, which we are unclear how to resolve, involving the active window and clicking this button. This button should be disabled, but that might lead to more confusion. I suspect that you have not 'activated' the left object window, and therefore the click on it does not get routed correctly. Click somewhere in the left window, and then both the add button and the menu options should work. The same goes for up/down/delete as well on the objects.

We've never created examples in Exporter Pro as everyone's configuration is different. After you add one or more objects, and if you have any questions, let us know what they are.

Thank you. That at least got an object properties window open.

I realize that everyone has a different configuration to manage but that is not the type of example I was worried about.

What helps me learn things best is an example I can try myself, and that would require the different configuration data. However, you could use the Microsoft technique (Contoso corporation, anyone?) and create a simple configuration that would cover basic usage.

I would like to see one example of creating one simple report using exporter pro from start (new config) to finish. That would help me get started with the tool.

I will continue on through the help and try to puzzle out the steps to a functioning report. I can tell there is a lot of power here but it will be a while before I can use it.

Are there any other user interface anomalies that I should look out for?

Those are all of the quirks that I know of and I'll try to eliminate this one and see about creating a 'generic' example in the documentation. Let us know if you stumble across anything else.
