Exporting Share permissions

Hello All,
I'd like to export share permissions for all PCs on my network, but under the context of a low privileged user account as opposed to the admin account that I run Hyena with. Is there any way to make Hyena do this?. My objective is to only see shares that a normal user could see.

I'm not sure this will work, as there are a lot of variables. But I need to know whether you are talking about share vs. file permissions on the share. If you use Hyena, and right click on a share and select Properties, you view the permissions on the share. If you right click on a directory under a share, or the share itself and select File Properties, you are looking at the permissions of the directory.

You can experiment with logging in as this user (or using RunAs), run Hyena, and perform the action interactively. This would simulate what Exporter Pro would do on a large set of shares or computers. I think Windows will automatically hide shares that the user can't access, but I don't know if you can view the permissions.

I'm using Exporter Pro, then under the setting tab, selecting Security Access, then ticking Shares and hidden shares. If I try to use Run As and enter the details of a normal privilege user account Hyena asks me to enter the license key again - it's as if it believes I'm running an an unlicensed copy of the software.

To make the license thing go away, log on interactively with this other user account, run Hyena, enter the license information, then close Hyena. Then, use RunAs and the license information will already be entered. You don't need another license, because 'you are still you'.

The hidden admin shares won't be available to a non-admin user, but I think Windows will just return non-admin hidden shares, ie any share created with a '$' on the end.

Hello,
This didn't work, it still views me as two separate users.
A better altenative I'm now attempting is to use Exporter Pro, then set a scheduled task to run pointing at my saved export, this points to;
"C:\Program Files\Hyena\HP_Test_Shares_and_permissions.INI"
It appears to start running corectly under the context of my ordinary user account, as the output file appears. However the output file remains empty. I think what may be happening is that when running it as a task Hyena doesn't understand which OU I want to export. I can see an Add Object Box, which I presume is what's needed ?, but when I browse and add "Computers: Workstations" OU, I get a messge "missing object file setting in configuration file"
Apologies for the length / detail in this message. Any advice very welcome as I think I've reached my technical limitations here!

Hello all,
I think I've made some progress, I've manged to add the object by intially doing a "New Export Configuration" as outlined in these forums. The Export I've set up now runs fine manually, but if I set it to run as a scheduled task, instead of running the task it just opens a text file called "workstation config.ini" Is this beacuse tsk manager doesn't understand how to start a .ini file, do I need to change the extension ?

What command are you running for your scheduled command ? There is a section in the help file under Advanced on the command line syntax.

I'm using Schduled Tasks from Control Panel and the task I'm trying to run is; Program Files\Hyena\Workstations config.ini, this the configuration file for an export created in Exporter Pro. It seems like Scheduler doesn't see this as an executable programme so just opens it in notepad. Am I pointing to the wrong file ?, should I instead be pointing to one of the .exe files in the Hyena folder and then in some way telling it to run the export I've saved.

You should be running Exporter Pro like this:

stexport.exe /CONFIG="Program Files\Hyena\Workstations config.ini"

Hello Cmccullough,
OK I've now got a .bat file which reads;
C:\Program Files\Hyena\stexport.exe /CONFIG=Path\Compname Workstation config.INI

I point scheduler to this .bat file, it starts to run but fails with code 0x1. When I saved the bat file it was ANSI format, is this correct? I feel like I'm almost there bu must be missing something ?

Can you run that same command from the Command Prompt? Get it working manually first, then try scheduling it.

Hello,
I think I was over complicating things. Simply moving the .bat file to the Hyena directory got it running. Now I need to work out how to get the Exporter that the scheduled task runs to write to a different output file each time it runs. Any assistance much appreciated.?

Hello,
I seem to have most everything working reasonably. I found the setting which says overwrite new output files which be ok, although I would have preffered to somehow write a new file perhaps appended with the current date.
My only issue now is running the task under the context of a different user account, for some reason both the scheduled task and using run as on the executable will only work under the context of the account with which I installed the software. Any ideas how I can resolve this ?

Logon to your computer with the account you are running the Task under. Start Hyena and license it. Verify that you can also run Exporter Pro and see if you can run your batch file as that user. Once you get that working, then try the Task again and see if it runs.
