  • DumpSec - temp file?

    Hello,

Does DumpSec produce a temp file while it is extracting the permissions info from a file share? Or does it hold all the data in memory until finished, and then write the output file?

I am trying to run a report on a very large file share (over 2 million files), and I cannot tell if it is making progress.

    Thank you for your assistance.

I believe it pulls the data into memory.

Okay- with this many files, do you feel confident that it will eventually finish (assuming the server keeps running and the process is not killed)? It could take several days, judging from how long previous reports took (this share is many times larger than any we have previously tried to create a report on).

What's the largest file share you've ever seen a DumpSec report created for? Millions of files?

      Thank you,
      Jimmy

We have no way of knowing how much data it's been used to report on, unfortunately. I would let it run, though and as far as we know it should complete.
