  • Dumpsec Directory Exception Reporting Problem

I'm trying to run a report on all of our servers that list NTFS rights that are different the directories above it. When I run dumpsec I get All the directories and their rights, not just the ones that are different - am I missing something?

I'm running this with the command:

    "C:\Program Files\SystemTools\dumpsec" /computer=\\server /rpt=dir=\\server\c$ /outfile=c:\audit\server.txt /saveas=fixed /showexcdirs

    Any advice?

    I use dumpacl.exe /rpt=dir=\\server\m$ /outfile=h:\contingency\dumpacl\servername.dcl /showexcdirs /noowner

This seems to do the trick.

I believe that when you use /showexcdirs and a directory is "repeated" in the results even though its NTFS permissions are identical to its parent, dumpsec is indicating that the directory has file(s) in it that don't match the parent directory.

This took awhile to figure out...
