Exporting Domain Machines v Rights

Hi Hyena gurus,

Quick question about something i noticed, i am trying to determine the number of old NT 4.0 boxes on some domains, including one or two domains i have no rights on.

If i select the domain and run the exporter, i seem to get a list. However i notice that if i right click -> properties on any of the machines located in a domain i have no rights on it displayes no information ... Yes still exports the information desired. can i trust this export ... how does hyena get teh OS version info for domains i do not have rights on?

To best answer this, let me know exactly what export/options you are exporting, and on the GUI, what tab (page) you are not seeing information.

Thanks for the quick response.

I'm am only checked "Export Computers" with "Servers" & "workstations" ont the Computers tab of the export tool.

If i right click on the computer in the domain i only see the computer name (not the version) on the "Gerneral" TAB of computer properties.

It sounds like you are using the older Exporter function in Hyena under Tools->Run Exporter. That utility is not Active Directory aware and is using functions from NT. When you looking through Hyena, more than likely it is using AD for some of the data. This may explain the discrepancy, but I'm not sure what your actual question is. Are you wanting to know why they are different, or...?

They use different Windows methods to get data, which is probably why you are seeing differences.
