Exporter Pro - Hangs on certain devices

When Exporter Pro gets to certain devices it will hang and I will usually end up having to kill the process. These devices are usually experiencing problems and can not be connected to via Hyena but Hyena will eventually quit trying and give me an error where as Exporter Pro will stay frozen.

Any ideas on how to get it to move on to the next device?

Exporter Pro, like Hyena depends on Windows to return control back to it. Timeouts when it can't find a computer or whatever are controlled by Windows.

If you have specific computers that give you trouble you can use the skip file option in Exporter Pro to give it a list of computers to skip.

That would work if it were always the same device but it isn't. I have started doing my exports in small batches but it takes time to set it up (i.e., Exclude everything except a few hundered devices). At lease that way if I hit a device that is having RPC problems or other issues I don't have to restart from scratch...only the latest batch.

I thought there might be a way to have it timeout when it hits one of these devices, log the error and move on. Instead it might stay stuck on the same device overnight.

The other option would be to enable Ping support. This will skip a computer if it doesn't respond.

That is the aggravating part. The device DO respond to ping. The few we have managed to track down are usually stuck in the shutdown process (The never ending "Saving your settings" box). So they still do resond to ping but are pretty much useless otherwise.

You might want to look into Microsoft's Universal Profile Hive Clean utility. It can help unload those stuck profiles and let the machine finish shutting down.
