  • Skip File

Hi, I'm using Exporter to query domains for server information. A couple of the exports have hung on certain machines, and while I look into that I wanted to exclude those machines from the scan so tried using the skip computers listed in file. But have not got this to work. Is there a certain format?

    I've tried

    Servername

    \\Servername

    Thanks

Try entering the DNS name for a computer rather than the Netbios name and see if that will work.

The domain I am scanning is NT4 so wouldn't use a DNS style name?? The server I am trying to exclude hangs reporter every time and also if I try and view properties in Hyena, it hangs Hyena. I'll try the exclude file with another server and see if I can get that to work

        Re: Skip File

In that case you should be able to simply enter the computer as Servername. You might test enabling the Ping function in Exporter Pro as well to see if that will skip it.

          Thanks for the response.

Pinging is enabled. I'm currently scanning multiple NT domains for a server discovery, and every now and again reporter will freeze on a particular server. By watching the console I can see whcih server this is, but I cannot get the skip file to work at all.

Also do you know what is likely to cause the reporter to hang and stop responding on a scan?

Go ahead and give us step-by-step details on what you are doing. Maybe I'm trying to duplicate this using a different scenario.

              Re: Skip File

I select a domain in Hyena and click export from selected object.

I then edit the export to requirements and if there is a server that hangs the export, I add the server name into a blank text file (in either \\server or server format) and save the file as skip.dat in the hyena directory and ensure that the path is correct on the ouput tab and the check box is checked.

I then start the scan and watch the scan and see the server I excluded attempt to scan and then hang.

Go ahead and send a screen shot of the General tab in Exporter Pro to [email protected].
