  • Unable to retrieve computer information for '\\serverA'. Access is denied.

    I am attempting to extract the 'Local Users and Groups' data from 'serverA but I receive the 'Access is denied' error. I am a member of the local Administrators group on 'serverA' and the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is Started. Are there additional services or additional access that is needed?

    This typically indicates that Windows doesn't feel you have sufficient permissions to perform the function.

    What are the exact steps you are taking?

      From Hyena v6.7 I select a specific server (serverA) then select "Tools", select "Exporter Pro", select "Export from Selected Objects…".
      From the "Export From Selected Objects" I highlight "Hyena – Exporter Pro (default)" and select "Settings…".
      From "Export Configuration Properties" in the "Enabled Exports" I have "Windows NT/Local Groups" selected. I then select "Close" on the "Export Configuration Properties" window.
      Then back to the "Export From Selected Objects" I select "Start Export" and then Exporter Pro displays with the "View Exported Files" window showing the newly created file…but it is blank except for the column headings.
      On Exporter Pro within the "Export Progress Messages" section is where the "…Access is denied" message is displayed.

        In Hyena, are you able to view local users and groups for that server?

          No luck. I receive the error message "Unable to list local groups. Access is denied." even with being a member of the "Administrators" group.

            Hyena/Exporter Pro has nothing to do with authenticating you, so something else is happening. Maybe you aren't in the administrators group, or you are logged on with a different account, or something.

            You can test to see if using Logon As for that server will help. Right-click on the Server and choose Logon As, then enter in credentials that you know to have access there. After that try viewing users and groups again.

              Problem solved. My workstation was authenticating to our Novell directory. The helpdesk now has my workstation authenticating to the windows domain. Thanks for all you help!

              Now I have another question/topic. Do I need to post a new thread?
