  • Exporting the Whole of AD

I would like to export the whole of our Live AD so I can import it into some test servers. Is this possible

This is best handled by using the Microsoft utilities CSVDE and LDIF which you can get from Microsoft's site.

What about doing and export or report of the whole AD in order to keep for documentation?

For that you can use Exporter Pro to create delimited text file output that can be viewed with Excel or Access. There's no "export all of AD" option, but you can export users, groups, computers, etc.

Re: Exporting the Whole of AD

You can use either Hyena or Exporter Pro to export the entire contents (more or less) of the domain. In Hyena, you click on the Containers/OUs object, then click the first toolbar button (Traverse Folders) on the OU toolbar on the bottom of the screen. Then when you double-click on the Containers/OUs object again in Hyena, it will retrieve everything that Hyena can display in the right window. You should note that this can take some time.

Another way is to use Exporter Pro, which can also export everything for an entire OU or an entire domain. You will have to create an AD template for this, as the default templates are already setup for users, groups, etc. so a new template with the "all objects (*) type needs to be setup. The resulting output file will contain everything in AD, with whatever fields you have specified. Since attributes for users, groups, etc. are different, however, you might want to create a template for each type of AD object you are interested in.
