  • Access reports

I have read a few posts regarding this issue but have not been able to solve it. Everytime I try to generate an Access report from within Hyena, I am getting an MSVB error:

    Run-Time error '2501':
    The OpenReport action was cancelled.

I am running Access 2003 and before now have not had a problem. Now, the data does show in the tables, and I am able to get to the data there, but the actual reports don't work. I have tried renaming the hyenarpt.mdb.v40 file, same results. I have tried updating the MDB file to version 2003, same results. I even tried copying the file from another installation, same results. I am currently running v6.6B. Please let me know if I can fix fix, as I rely pretty heavily on reporting.

Give us a step-by-step on what exactly you are doing.

      Re: Access reports

Selecting server from OU list, selecting services, click Tools...generate report, click OK for report name Services, Data Source All, Append Options - Overwrite.
At this point Access (2003) loads then throws the error. I had had trouble with reporting before, but it turned out the DB was corrupt. This time, I have tried replacing the DB several times and even upgrading it to 2003 to no avail.

        Re: Access reports

I can't reproduce the problem, and since it is in Access where it is failing there's not much we can help with.

Since you say the information is making it to the database, but the report fails, try manually running the Services report in the database to see if you can get it to run that way.

Another option would be to send the data from the right window to Excel or to your own Access database. You can do this by doing an Edit->Select All, then an Edit->Copy to open the Copy List Window.

          Re: Access reports

I too am having trouble running any report on a database I created years ago, but recently converted Access 2003,SP2. The error is "Run-time error 2501" "The OpenReport action was canceled". The line that fails is
          DoCmd.OpenReport "rptInputStatus", acViewPreview
Which has always run fine. I tried running other reports from the Reports object window, but nothing happens on any of them. I also tried the design button but nothing happends either. Nor can I create a new Report object. All other objects work fine. Other databases I have work fine. Any thoughts?

            Re: Access reports

This seems like a problem with Access 2003, as I can't duplicate on my end, and I also have SP2. Based on a search on Google, this appears to be a common problem, but one that noone seems to know the cause. If you can't create new objects in Access, that shows that there is a problem with the installation or a setting somewhere, perhaps security-related. Also, make sure that you have a printer driver installed and set as the default printer, as Access will need that to show a report.

              Re: Access reports

fyi - re: error 2501 generating reports. I read this could be a printer driver problem (Access), for me that was all it took to fix it. I had recently changed my default printer, a simple switch back quickly proved that was the issue.
