  • Exporting only sends field headers

I have been exporting users, groups and groupmembers for 3 domains monthly since november. (Tools\Run Exporter). This month my largest domain is only exporting the field headers. I can export fine for the other two domains. I can see everything fine in the GUI interface, just can export for the 1 domain. Running version 6.0

When I save the export settings and run exporter from a dos prompt for one of the smaller domains - it works fine. When I save the export settings and run exporterf froma dos prompt for the larger domain.. all I get is the exporter version number 2.7
I have over 20,000 objects in this domain.
I am not sure where to look.

Have you tried using Exporter Pro instead? You'll find this under the Tools menu as well and it has quite a bit more functionality than the older Exporter that you are using.

I will try that, but I was able to get all the information previously with just the "run exporter" option and for some reason I cannot this month for my primary user domain. I was perplexed as to why it would just stop working.

Well, that version relies quite heavily on the Windows Browse List, and more than likely something has changed to where it is no longer able to resolve a controller for the domain. This is not something that would change in Exporter, obviously, but something on your network, your computer, etc.

The newer version has a lot more options on how to find computers and such, including the ability to simply select the domain, or a controller, or a selection of controllers/servers/computers and run Exporter Pro against those objects.

OK. But if the browser wouldn't be unable to get a domain controller.. wouldn't that affect the GUI interface too ? or do the GUI and Exporter Pro work differently ?
It also bothered me because I could get the other information for my other two domains, just not this particular one.

          Thanks

Re: Exporting only sends field headers

The old Exporter is completely separate from Hyena or Exporter Pro, and the way they get data is completely different.

OK, using Exporter Pro and the Windows NT/Local groups configuration - the same things happens... I get the headers, but not the detail.

I can get the detail using the Active Directory configuration. But it would appear that I cannot get Global & Local Groups in one report. Or Groupmembership that is just users - When I select Groups I get computers too and I am just interested in user groups and their members..
Is there a way to do exclusions ?

Re: Exporting only sends field headers

If you are trying to export Global groups and Domain Local groups, the AD exports are what you will use. If you are exporting local groups for your workstations, you'll use the Windows NT/Local Groups export. If you are trying to get members of your groups, you'll use the group members exports.

I don't see a way to export just the user groups and exclude computer groups. You could select the groups you want to export in Hyena, then use the Export Selected Objects option to export against just those groups.

I'm having a similar problem. After performing the export using Exporter Pro, all I see are the headings. I want to export the global users for a particular server. How do I do that?

Re: Exporting only sends field headers

If you are using the Active Directory exports, select your domain in Hyena and use the Export Selected Objects function and see what your output file looks like.

Re: Exporting only sends field headers

I am using the Active Directory Exports. Once I select the server I want to export from, I select Tools/Exporter Pro/Export Selected Objects. I selected Containers/OU and then Export Properties - set the Object Type Filters to Users to select the information types. I still got only the headers.

Re: Exporting only sends field headers

I don't believe you can use AD exports against a server like that. So, select your domain rather than a server and export against that and see what you end up with.

Re: Exporting only sends field headers

Active Directory exports can only be run against AD objects, such as AD domains, OUs, or individual AD objects such as users or groups.
