  • Exporting local 'administrator' groups?

I am looking for a way to export a list of all users and groups that are in the local "administrators" group of each of our member servers. Is there a way to do this with Hyena?

    Thanks in advance.

You can use Exporter Pro for this. Select the computers in Hyena, then go to Tools->Exporter Pro->Export Selected Objects. Click the Settings button and configure the export for Windows NT/Local Groups.

You'll use the Export Group Members section and at the bottom you can give it a file with the groups you want to export (in your case Administrators).

Thanks for your prompt answer. If I create a new object with a server name the query is reporting what I want. My new issue is this:

If I click on 'servers' in Hyena, I get the error:

"Unable to list computers. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currenlty available"

however, if I click on 'computers' in Hyena, they show up amongst the thousands of desktops which makes it cumbersome to sift through. Any ideas?

      Thanks again

The Servers folder is built by a query to the Windows Browse List. When you have missing servers from there, it means that for some reason they aren't showing up on your browse list.

The Computers folder actually is a list of all computers in your domain, which is retrieved from one of your domain controllers.

You would need to either figure out the problem with browsing on your network (or from your computer), or add them the way you have.

OK perfect, we have turned off our browsing services so I know why the servers are not showing up. Last question, is it possible to add more than one server to a new object or import a server list from a csv file?

          Thanks for all your help!

To import your list of computers, what you do is create a text file and name it qstation.dat. Your entries will look like:

            ServerA Servers
            ServerB Servers
            ServerC Servers

There are 2 tabs between those. The Servers part I specified above is the grouping folder you will create, and can be named anything you want. Use the same one for all of these computers to keep them in the same grouping.

Then go to File->Manage Object View and click the button to Import Quick Access. Find the file you created and it should pull in the computers and put them in the group name you specified on each line (Servers in this example.)

That works great, I have populated the manage objects view window and can export the list no problem. I do however have a few 'error; coming up when I export the group info, most objects export the info fine, its just a handfull out of 175 servers.

              1st error:

Missing "ObjectFile" setting in configuration file. The object file path and name must be set under configuration--> Properties --> General.

              2nd error:

Unable to retrieve computer information for '\\server name'. Access is denied.

              Thanks again!

                Re: Exporting local 'administrator' groups?

The access denied message is indicating that for some reason your account doesn't have sufficient permissions on those particular computers to get this information.

For the other error, when do you get this error? Are you using the Export Selected Objects method I gave above?

                  Re: Exporting local 'administrator' groups?

I select the servers on right hand window, then go to:

Tools/ Exporter Pro/ Export Selected Objects

Then the 'Export Selected objects' window appears. I have named it, then I click the start export button.

A new window opens with the servers listed on the left and the status info on the right. The majority of the servers report with a status of:

                  Exporting Group Information

but there is the handful that just have:

                  Exporting...

I tried just selecting those servers that only have "exporting...' and running the export again, but when I do, that is when I get error #1 as mentioned above.

I hope ive explained enoughm, if you need more info let me know and i'll try to word it a bit better

                  Thanks again.

I should also mention, the servers that are not exporting info back are remote sites. Different subnets etc.
