  • Exporter always gets all computers?

I may be working with the new exporter the wrong way, but it seems that even if i run an export against AD for all user accounts, it still pings each computer on our domain.

Did i miss a switch? Specifically what im trying to do is get the last logon time report from the latest beta of exporter.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Tim

Go to Configuration->Properties and click on Export Properties. On the General tab, which option do you have selected for Domain Computer Retrieval Method?

      Hi,
I have selected Windows 2000: get computers from active directory.

Does that mean it grabs every computer object from the directory?

      Thanks,
      Tim

Select the Browse List option and let us know if that makes any difference.

          Hi,
Selecting browse list doesnt seem to change anything. Its faster, but still retrieves a list of all computers.

The only way to get it to only look at my DC's is to set a filter.

That being said, wouldnt it be faster to not get a list of computers when all your trying to export is user information from the domain?

          Thanks,
          Tim

If you just want domain accounts, then do NOT use a filter. Using a filter forces Exporter to look at the computer type. When using the browse list option, this should be very fast, as its already part of the list. Exporter won't try to ping a computer that is already filtered out when using the browse list option.

If you have an AD object (domain or OU), then just enable the AD query that you have setup for exporting user information. For NT domains, there is a checkbox on the NT/Local Users dialog to only export domain user accounts.

And, if you have any other export option enabled, ie services, disk space, etc. then of course Exporter will need to get the entire computer list. I suspect that you may have enabled more than just exporting AD information.

If you still have problems, send me ([email protected]) your current configuration file (.INI file).

Not always, and Virtual Servers and clustered resources confuse it as well
