• Reporting user access for a group of shares.

    <ul style="list-style-type: disc">[*] Hyena 5.5[*] Windows 2003 Server
I am trying to use a report to show the following things:

<ul style="list-style-type: disc">[*] Share Name[*] Share Path[*] Member groups of the share[*] Users who are members of the above groups
I can accomplish this by exportig member groups as well as shares and users. Then copying them out of excel and into access and using a vbscript to arrange the data.

This is a function we need to generate once a month, so I am wondering if there is a simpler way to acheive this.

There really isn't an easy way to do this. Future versions of our exporting software should allow exporting security information, but for now only Hyena can get at the security information.

The easiest way to get the share and security information together is to right click on the Shares object for a given server and select "View all Access Rights".

And, assuming that the security is Active Directory domain-based, if you right click on multi-selected groups in the right window, you can select "View Members" to get a listing of the members of the groups.

Let me know how this works out for you, as we would like to improve this reporting area a bit.

    Thanks

I can select the shares object for the specific server and then right click View All Access Rights.

This brings up a list of groups with access to those shares. However when I select multiple groups from the right-pane and right click the only option I have is properties. There is no Show Members available.

To get a listing of group members you have to go through a group view (All Groups, Global Groups, etc.) from the domain.
