STExporter - sample reports

I've been playing around with STExporter in the Hyena 5.5 release version and am finding it extremely unintuitive and the Help files to be not much help either.

Could you provide some step by step examples of how to set up same basic reports in the Help files?

For example, I just want to create a report of all the NT4 servers in a particular domain or all the Windows 2000 servers and DCs in a domain and their Service Pack level.

Sorry that you are having such problems.

First, if you don't have a configuration setup already, click Configuration->New. For simplicity, you can enter the same value for all three items, like the name of your organization. Just enter a name, no punctuation, etc. for all three items. Click OK.

Start by adding one of your domains to the left window (object list). Click Edit->New Object. Set the Object Type to be the type of domain, enter in a display name, and for the path either enter the name of the domain (if its a Windows NT domain), or use the browse button to create an LDAP for you if its a Windows 2000 domain.

You can either add both NT and 2000/2003 domains, or you can create a different configuration for each one.

Next, click Configuration->Properties and select what you want to export. If you just want a list of servers and domain controllers and their service pack/OS:

- Click the Registry tab and click on the System Configuration template to enable it. You want to see a checkmark next to the name.

- Click the Computers tab, then click the Set Filter button and select the domain controllers and server filter types (first three checkboxes on the Filter dialog). Click OK, then remember to check the "Enable Computer Filtering" button on the Computers dialog.

Run the export (Export->Start Export). The resulting file (config.txt) will contain the information from the registry about the Windows installation.

If you want to retrieve the information from Active Directory for your Windows 2000 domain, you can do that too, but the registry has more detailed information about the Windows installation.

I'm also using the new version now.

but i'm not getting out of the exporter function.

I just what to query the harddisk space on all my servers in my domain nt/2003

how can I do this ?

You'll use the instructions from above, except rather then going to the Registry tab you'll go to the Drives tab.

Still use the Set Filter option on the Computers tab to determine which computers to export.

Yes okee but now the format is
C NTFS 3.95 GB 2.59 GB 1.36 GB
end the old format was also giving the hostname

On the Drives tab click the Customize Output Columns button, click Insert Symbol. Select Object_Name and click OK. Run your export again and your output file should have the computer name.

Thanks for the step-by-step Kevin.

I did exactly that (using Windows 2000/2003 object) and the Export actually ran through every machine account in the domain listing 'ping failed' in the status column except for servers and extracted the registry settings of the servers.

This doesn't seem right to me since it's quite inefficient? That being said, I did get my list

Bah... ignore the comment about the PCs I discovered I'd checked the Computers object in the Active Directory tab in a previous attempt to get it working.

I followed the step-by- step giving to me forexporting servers account in the domain listingbut for some reason i'm getting 'ping failed' in the status column except for servers. Since I have 7000 workstation and 600 application servers I can not waint for it to entire report to end. I verify the computer object in the Active direcotry tab was not check and checkout. The new verions is not being too friendly.

Go to Configuration->Properties->Computers and check the box: Do not display errors in progress window when ping fails.
