  • Audit of Network Share Permissions.

Get this error message when trying to view all access rights on a share...

"unable to retrieve shared objects from \\sharename. A device attached to the system is not functioning."

I domain admin rights on it as well.

Whare are the exact steps you take to reproduce this error?

Re: Audit of Network Share Permissions.

I expand the domain, the servers, the server that the share is on. I highlight "shares" and right click on it and click "view all access rights", that is when the error pops up. I also cannot view any shares there as well unless I type in the share name. Thanks.

What Operating System is running on this server? Is it Samba or anything other than 2000 or 2003?

Re: Audit of Network Share Permissions.

Most issues dealing with NetApp Filers have been fixed by upgrading to the latest patch/build of the NetApp software. You might want to make sure you are on the latest, and contact their support if not.

Also, what version of Hyena are you running?

I will double check that the filer is up to date. I am running v5.2 'C' of Hyena.

Re: Audit of Network Share Permissions.

I started checking other shares on the filer and it appears to be working fine on them. There definitely is a problem when someone sets up a directory on the share and only gives it rights to their own ID.

Did you ever resolve this issue? I am having the very same problem with Filers..

Re: Audit of Network Share Permissions.

Unfortunately I did not come up with a solution for this and it came that I did not need the audit anymore so I pretty much gave up. Sorry and good luck.
