  • How to get more information about a share.

    Just my (junior member’s worth….) 2 cents.
What would make my life with auditors almost perfect would be to report (easily), on a share. That share would show all the users, and expand all the local groups. It would be printable, and emailable (as opposed to graphic only)

Even better would be the capability of running this on an entire server.

A real plus would be the capacity to enter a group name and a list of member for groups that are not on the server being reported.

It does seem like Hyena excels at managing servers, but I sure would like (and pay a reasonable upgrade fee for ) some major improvements in the reporting category.

If it’s possible to do this and I’ve missed it, that would be terrific.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you want a report of all of the users with permissions for a share, or for the files on a share ?

I'd like to click on an icon that ALL the shares on a server, and get back a list of who has what kind of permissions to access the share(s). It is possible to do now, but you have to do it on a "by share", and if the permissions are to a group, you have to go elsewhere to get the group members.

I can get permissions of a shares on a server using exporter, but then I have to do even more work to get the individuals in the group.

Clearly western civilzation is not resting on getting this resolved.... it just would be nice. It seems like the information is there, I guess I'd like Hyena to do the work puting it together, rather than me.

      Thanks.

Yes, I understand. You can get all of the permissions for a share in Hyena if you right click on Shares and select "View all Access Rights". But this won't show who is in each group.

We plan on making some improvements to the reporting and exporting facilities soon and will keep this need in mind.

        Thanks for your suggestion.

Is there a way to get a report for
All shares and it's members & permissions in one report
All users and what groups they belong to
          in one report
          Thanks so much!!!

The way to get this is to use the Export function under File->Export. The Members tab will give you the groups and their members, and the Shares tab will give you a report on shares and the share permissions.

These will give you delimited text files that can be opened with Excel for further sorting, reporting, and printing.

How has this changed in version 6.6B of Hyena?

V6.6 has the new Exporter Pro for exporting information, but it still creates delimited text file output. You can get share security as well as file/directory NTFS permissions now.
