A great feature of Hyena would be if the computerlist wouldnt be created from the old and tired Windows Browsing List, but from the DNS-Server list. So integrating Subdomains would be a big enhancement of Hyena.

Re: Computerlist From DNS-Server
Hyena rarely uses the browse list for Windows 200x domains (ie Active Directory) domains. The only place we use the browse list is for generating the Servers list, which this information would only be on the browse list anyway. The Computers listing is generated from Active Directory. There is a 'merge with browse list' feature, but tht just gets the browse list and overlays it on top of the computer listing so that you might have an idea which computers are 'on'.
Microsoft never produced any decent documentation that I am aware of for any interface into its DNS system, which is why we don't access it.
Are you using Windows 200x systems or Windows NT ?Kevin Stanush

Re: Computerlist From DNS-Server
I guess I don't understand why you can't see the computer list in Hyena, as it comes from Active Directory. Do you have the domain added in as a Windows 200x domain under File->Manage Object View ? Where/how are you getting to the computers list and not seeing them ?Kevin Stanush

Re: Computerlist From DNS-Server
Yes the domain is added under File->Manage Object View. I can click on the domain name, then I see (its a german Hyena version):
+ Server
+ Domنnen-Controller
+ Computer
+ Benutzer
+ Lokale Gruppen
+ Globale Gruppen
+ Benutzerrechte
When I click on item 'Server' Hyena times out and a long time later the following message appears: "Arbeitsstationen konnten nicht ausgeführt werden. Das Gerنt ist nicht verbunden."
When I click on item 'Lokale Gruppen' the following message appears: "Lokale Gruppen konnten nicht ausgeführt werden. Der RPC-Server ist nicht verfügbar."

Re: Computerlist From DNS-Server
Thanks for the details. As explained by kstanush above, the Servers folder has to come from the Windows Browse List. Unfortunately we have no way to get information from DNS, and there doesn't appear to be a way to get a list of servers from AD, so for the present time we are having to depend on the browse list for the Servers folder.
