Send the LDAP path that you have setup for this domain to [email protected]ols.com. You can view it in Object Manager.

I was using the procedure you defined in your previous reply, by adding the computer through File, Manage Object View, New. That didn't work.

    Thanks

I'm not sure I understand what you mean about not being able to access them by IP. If you have any name resolution or path issues, this would eliminate that.

But, one thing you can try is going to File->Manage Object View, click New then add a Windows Domain object for your domain. This will not use AD functionality and will be a good test to see if you can manage your workstations using that object.

We are still having a problem here. I didn't help to use the IP address to access the computer. We did find out that if we righ click on the computers icon and select view, browse, advanced, and find now we can see all the computers out there. We can then select the one we want, OK, and OK back to the main screen we then have control of the workstation. If we shut down Hyena we will have to go through the same procedure for every workstation that we need to manage. It looks like it has somethnig to do with LDAP. Is Hyena using LDAP to find computers? Is this the default once Active Directory is enabled?

RPC errors are typically communication errors. What Hyena does is uses Windows API function calls, and simply passes whatever parameters are required by each function. Most require computer name. So, Hyena runs the function and passes a name of say ComputerABC. Windows then tries to find ComputerABC so it can get the requested information.

If it can't contact or find the remote computer it gives the RPC error.

    Some things to check:

If these XP boxes are running SP2, they probably have the new Windows Firewall on and enabled, it is probably blocking you.
You could have WINS or DNS configuration issues. Since you are having trouble with a quite a few different systems I would assume this would be on your system.

The easiest way to test the name-resolution issue would be to get the IP address of a computer that is giving you these errors and add in an entry by that IP address in Hyena. To do so, go to File->Manage Object View and click New. Change the Type dropdown to Workstation, enter in the Name of one of the computers and in the Computer Path box enter the IP for that computer. Click Add and then OK and you should see the new object at the bottom of the left window.

Try accessing that object and see if you get the same errors. If not, you have a name-resolution issue. If you still get the errors then I would verify that it isn't running the Firewall or something else between you and that computer is blocking you.

Get an error message that the PRC server is unavailable

Within the last 2 weeks we have been getting an error message that the RPC server is unavailable when we try to manage workstations in either of our domains. I am having no problems with the servers. This only occasonally happened before but now it is almost every workstation we have. Has anyone else had this problem? We started the migration to AD about the middle of summer but have only recently had this problem. On one seems to know just exactly when it started or what network changes may have been incorporated.

    Thanks
