  • Send Message Error

When I attempt to send a message to a user by right clicking on the user account and choosing "send Message", I immediately get an error message; "Unable to send message to (lastname\ firstname). Do you wish to continue to see error messages displayed? The filename, directory name or label syntax is incorrect". Any ideas of what I need to change to get this to work correctly?

Can you send a screen shot of that error to [email protected]? Also, if you go to the Command Prompt and use net send to this same account, what happens?

      Re: Send Message Error

I have not used the "net Send" command previously, so I may be doing something wrong, but I can't send a message this way. I have tried several times to send a message, and I just get a line that says "The syntax for this command is: Name
      {name |*|/DOMAIN[:name] |/users} message"
I can't get a copy of the screen shot to paste in here from Hyena, however the error message is "Unable to send message to Wilson\, Penny. Do you wish to continue to see error messages displayed? The filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect" with choice buttons for "yes" and "No"

We're looking into this and will get back to you shortly if there is anything that can be done differently in Hyena.

Still working on this issue. My Messenger Service was shut off, now it's on. I have check the other computers using Hyena and their Messenge Services are running. I can send a message that way now, but still can't send messages using Hyena

            Re: Send Message Error

This problem is caused by the presense of a , in the directory name of the user, and you presumably also have a samaccountname attribute for this user (Pre Windows 2000 Logon name) that is different from the directory name (also called the 'cn').

Hyena is using the cn name to send the message, but this fails due to how your user entries are formatted.

A fix for this problem will be available around the end of the week or early next week.

If this is an urgent problem that you want fixed now, please send a message to [email protected].

Thanks for alerting us to this problem.

This is not an emergency. A fix by next week will be fine. Please advise me when it's available.
