Under the Notes Tab in Hyena, there is space for Comments and Notes. We've been able to view the Notes with no problems in AD, but the Comments are another story. Can't seem to view them unless you search for a user and then select Comments in the Column View. Any ideas?

    Re: Comment

The comments are viewable only in Hyena, and also the "Net User" command. Hyena can also show these contents in any of its Active Directory displays if you add this directory attribute to the query.

Are you trying to view this information using Microsoft's tools ? As far as I know, it won't appear in any of Microsoft's tools.

      Re: Comment

As I mentioned before we can see the Notes in the AD console but not the Comments unless were do a search for a person. Once you find them in the AD console, Change the column view and comments will be available, but they are not in a regular users view in the AD Console. Hyena doesn't change the schema so this info must be somewhere that AD knows about but where?

        Re: Comment

I assume by AD console you mean the MMC snapin Active Directory Users and Computers ?

The field attribute for comments is named "comment"; for the notes input field in Hyena, the Active Directory attribute is named "info". You can see the data and attributes for a given user by right clicking on a user, select Listing Views->User (All). This will show you all of the attributes in Active Directory for a user.

          Re: Comment

I think most LAN folks know it as AD Console. MMC Snap in for Active Directory Users is correct but a bit long winded. You are telling me where to see the info in Hyena. We know how to do that. We are trying to find out where the info is stored in AD. The question I asked was Hyena doesn't change the Scema so this info must be somewhere in AD, but where???

            Re: Comment

I don't think that there is a way to view the comment/info (notes) information using the Active Directory Users & Computers (ADUC) snapin. There may be a way to get ADUC to include these attributes in its Modify Columns dialog, but I don't know of where/how it generates this list.

As I indicated in the previous posting, the attributes names for the Notes information in Hyena is found in the 'info' and 'comment' directory attributes. Scripting tools, ADSVW.EXE, etc. can view these attributes, but Microsoft's tools are sometimes limited in the flexibility that they have in their customization and functionality in getting access to everything.
