    Does Hyena support Linux Servers

  • #2
    Re: Linux

In general, no, but it depends upon what you want to do. Hyena assumes that any remote computer is running Windows NT, or an operating system that is compatible with Windows NT, including Windows 2000, Windows XP, etc. Hyena adds functionality for Windows 2000 Active Directory domains.

If the right software is running on the Linux computer, like Samba, then Hyena can probably see the shares and printers as this emulates the NT SMB protocol. And, Hyena will detect a UNIX computer (normally) and remove objects that it knows that won't work (like user management). So if you just want Hyena to manage shares, printers, and files, this will usually work we have been told for a SAMBA server. But Hyena won't support scheduling or service administration, as an example, for Linux computers.

We don't have any Linux computers here, so perhaps someone else on the board can say what works right and what does not.
