  • 2000 AD Certified by Microsoft?

Does anyone know if Hyena 4.3 is certified by Microsoft? We have a new policy going in place that requires us to only have 3rd party tools that carry the Microsoft certified application seal of approval? No mention of it on the Hyena main site.
    Thanks,

Re: 2000 AD Certified by Microsoft?

Microsoft's certification programs (in our opinion) don't really mean what most users think. They are designed to force developers to make applications the way Microsoft wants them to be developed and not necessarily they way should be.

Hyena is still listed as meeting the Windows XP Logo requirements here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/catalog

    Once there, search for Hyena.

However, we are no longer using the Designed for XP logo officially because we have abondoned it's usage after Microsoft requested that we change some things about the application. The details would be funny, if it weren't for the time and expense that we went through to modify Hyena to meet the logo requirements in the first place. We are unwilling to modify Hyena further in order to address the "issues" that Microsoft identified. For example, disabling the autorun feature on the CD when its inserted in the CD drive after the application is already installed. This has nothing to do with software quality and to put it simply, we have more important things that we know that our users want us to work on.

We therefore consider Hyena to be "Windows 2000 compatible", but Microsoft does not have a logo program for this certification level.

If you need more details about this matter, or a copy of Microsoft's XP logo audit, please let me know ([email protected]) and I'll be happy to post it.

While I respect any decision that any company would have to use only logo'd or certified applications, I have to disagree with the way that Microsoft has implemented and marketed these programs.
