  • "?" Icon in Computer Tree

I have miscellaneous servers (BDC's are my attention) that only show up in the Computer tree and have a question mark icon on them. Hyena seems to recognize that they're BDC's, but I'm assuming there's an issue that won't allow Hyena to bring the server into the appropriate "Domain Controllers" tree.

For the Domain Controllers folder Hyena gets the list from the Windows browse list.

When you expand Computers Hyena is able to get all computers from the domain list. We found a way to determine if a computer is a domain controller, but if it isn't listed on the browse list Hyena has no way to know if that computer is online or not.

So we added this icon to let you know it is a BDC, but the question mark indicates that since it isn't on the browse list, it might be offline.

Is there any way to force it into the respective "Domain Controllers" group? I was able to add it within the Domain group, but consolidating into the standard group would be very beneficial.

The only way to get it in that folder would be to figure out the browse list issue.

Domain Controllers can only be populated with machines found on the browse list. When you expand Computers there is a completely different call made which allows Hyena to make this determination. Basically it is going through the ENTIRE computer list, whereas the Domain Controllers folder is a list generated by querying the browse list for domain controllers.

Another option would be to create an Object Grouping in Object Manager, and then manually adding your domain controllers to that grouping. This will give you a static list that will always be available, and should be faster.

I assume that these are Windows NT domain controllers ? If they are Windows 2000 domain controllers, then you can change the domain type in Hyena to be a Windows 2000 domain and this problem will go away.
