  • Windows XP & Shared User Settings

    Hi,

I have upgraded to Windows XP this morning and since then, it seems that any of the User Templates I created under Home Dir dont work anymore.

If I point the shared settings option to the ini file it doesn't import the settings. Does anyone have any ideas about this? I am using version 6.3 but a collegue is using version 6.0, also with the same problem.

Can you give us more details on this?

Sorry, when I go to the Home.Dir tab, no templates appear. When I log into a 2k machine as my own profile they show up fine, even if i remove the templates then re-insert the shared ini file.

        Try this:

        Go to Tools->Settings->General.
Enter your shared file information, then click OK. Don't go to the other tabs, just enter in the file name and path and click OK.

Then go back to Tools->Settings->Home Dir and see if it pulled in the correct information.

When you are logged in with the working profile, enter in a new file name and check the box to Save Settings, then click OK.

Then try the non-working profile again pointing to the newly saved file. Use the same method as above where you point it to the new file, then click OK to save that change. Then go back in and check the Home Dir tab.

If that still doesn't work, send some screen shots to [email protected] so I can see what you have.

Re: Windows XP & Shared User Settings

It seems that no matter what I try and do, it simply will not accept any settings which are saved into an .ini file. I was using the same profile before on a Win2k machine and the XP Pro machine.

If I create a new .ini file then try to import it on the XP Pro machine it doesnt accept it, in the User Dir tab, it is empty when it should be listing about 5 or 6 profiles.

Re: Windows XP & Shared User Settings

I have just noticed, that if I type in the full UNC path for the ini file it then loads the templates into Home Dir. However, if I then OK this, it takes out the UNC path and replaces it with the drive mapping. For example:

                If i type in \\servername\d$\data\it\hyena.ini
                It replaces it with:
                F:\IT\hyena.ini (F drive mapping to \\servername\data)

Then the templates will not appear. Other then moving the ini file, do you have any ideas?

Re: Windows XP & Shared User Settings

Go ahead and manually edit the ini file and put in the UNC path in the SettingsFile= line. The F: path is coming from there, so edit it directly and see if that fixes the issue.

Thanks, that seems to have done the trick.
