Why is it than in Hyena, the tools for Profiles don't work the same as the tools for Home directories? Specifically, why is there no Explore button for Profile Path?

Also, since upgrading to 2.6 from 2.5.2, I seem to have lost some functionality on Profile paths. When clicking the Find button, I used to at least get a window showing the \\Servername\Profiles$ folder from which I could right-click the user name and choose Explore. Now, half the time I get a My Network Places listing that shows all of the local domains, and half the time it gives me an error that one of the domain names couldn't be found. And when I get the My Network Places window, I can't explore to the profiles folder, because it's hidden. So, I have to go back to connecting to the server and opening up a window to the profiles$ share.

I love Hyena, and it's made my job alot easier, so maybe I'm just being picky. But there are still several repetetive tasks to my job that I'd LOVE to see made easier by Hyena.

    Re: Profiles

The missing Explore button is a throwback to the 'old' days when profiles were files and not directories. I'll make sure that the Explorer button gets added in the next release. If you want an interim patch to v2.6, please let me know directly at [email protected].

I'm a bit confused about your comments about the Find button however, as I don't see a way that you can right click in the Find dialog to Explore. This dialog is Microsoft's...Hyena only displays it. If you can repeat the error message that you are seeing, let me know and I'll see if there is a specific cause of it (its a Microsoft error message). The Find button will default its search to whatever you have currently entered in the Profile Path field, so if the path is invalid or unreachable, then an error could result, although I can't reproduce this behavior, and it might depend on a lot of factors.

      Re: Profiles

I guess the problem is that it isn't opening what's in the profile path field. (I think the error I'm getting is just a Microsoft issue that isn't Hyena related).

Let's say that my profile path is listed as \\server\share\username. When I used to click Find in Hyena 5.2, it would open up a window displaying the contents of \\server\share. Basically, I'd see all of the users' profile folders. At that point, what I used to do was right-click the folder that I wanted and choose Explore (this freed up Hyena to do other things while I used Explorer to delete the profile or move it).

Now, instead of getting the Find box for \\server\share I get basically a listing of My Network Places that shows all of the domains, and the first domain is open. What looks to me to be happening is that Hyena is not searching the current domain that I'm in, but it's starting with the first available domain, not finding the server I want, and giving me a window to go look for it myself. Does this make sense? I'm not sure if I'm explaining it well.

        Re: Profiles

I'm still puzzled how you got an Explore option from the browse for a directory dialog box. When I right click, I only get a "Whats This ?" option. Hyena only grabs the current profile path, and passes that to the function in Windows that we use to display the dialog box that you see. I too can duplicate this behavior with UNC-based paths. If I use a local path, the dialog box defaults to that directory. I'll look around to see if I can come up with a workaround. In the meantime, what version of NT/2000 are you using ? I wonder if something did not change on your client, as Hyena's handling of this has not changed (its only about 3 lines of code...)

        -thanks
