Append Description

User accounts in right pane.
Select multiple user accounts, right click and Manage Directory Attributes.
Show only these attributes, select Description and add.

Now I have used this method before successfully to update (overwrite) with a new description on multiple accounts.

I select the append radio button, type in my information. If I click add and then OK, I get errors for each item trying to update. If I simple click ok, I get the prompt that it is going to update X amount of object and appears to finish. But the description of the selected user account does not change.

So I did the first option as that is the one that gives an error.

Unable to save changes for directory object

So when you enter the information you want appended, you are suppose to click the add button before clicking ok?

This error happens because Active Directory is not permitting multiple values into the description field. While it is a multi-valued attribute, Microsoft has internally limited it to a single value, presumably because all GUI applications (MMC, Hyena) present it as a single value.

So does this mean I am unable to append the description on multiple objects with Hyena? Meaning this function no longer works?

I don't believe you would ever have been able to do this (append multiple descriptions) as Active Directory does not allow it. You can update the description field, but not place more than one element into the field. The description attribute is essentially a multi-valued attribute that only allows one value.
