  • Dial-In Tab for Hyena 8.0 x64 on Windows 7

I have RAS options enabled in the properties, but don't see the dial-in tab. What's the trick?

It seems Microsoft has removed RAS management from Windows 7.

So no known way to manipulate users anymore?

The problem is the Microsoft library (mpr) that we use to update RAS no longer works. The functions are still there but they return an error if you use them. In fact, we had to by default disable them for Windows 7.

        This is a documented problem:

Hyena and ADU&C use essentially the same interface, which is why the Dialin tab does not appear in ADU&C.

I have no idea why Microsoft decided to do this.

          Found this http://blog.ryantadams.com/2010/08/0...-on-windows-7/

It does work for Window 7 x86, is there a way to enable Hyena to allow the Dial in tab?

Unfortunately that solution won't work for Hyena. We have a theory that you can test if you want. Hyena's function calls a dll called mprapi.dll, which is also missing from Windows 7. It would seem that if you copy that file from a server such as a 2008 Server (32 bit version of the file, though) and copy that to your computer you might have some success.

Re: Dial-In Tab for Hyena 8.0 x64 on Windows 7

One 2nd thought, this won't work. Windows 7 does have the mprapi.dll file (at least my install does) and it appears to be the same version as found on Windows 2008. So there might be another piece (.dll) file that is causing the problem. Hyena actually calls a function in the mprapi.dll to update/get the RAS information and from looking at this file, it internally calls quite a bit of other functions.

Anyway, if Hyena calls the RAS functions in this file on Windows 7, it fails with a wierd error. The only way we could prevent a lot of support calls was to disable the RAS functionality on Windows 7 in Hyena by force. If Hyena detects that it is running on Windows 7, then it does not attempt to even use the RAS functions.

This could be worked around if someone found that Microsoft's own tools can be tweaked to work with RAS on Windows 7. We could either modify our code, put in an override (Advanced) option, or as a test, you could run Hyena in XP mode and make it think that its not running on Windows 7, thereby making it load the RASAPI.dll file and make the calls and see if they still give the error.
