Make sure that you are using the current version on the site, which is v1.1. You can verify that by looking in the copypwd.c source file and seeing the version comment at the top of the file.

Error 5 is typically an access denied message, so make sure you have sufficient permissions to retrieve this data. Also, it must be run locally on the computer you are trying to dump/set passwords on. It can't be run remotely.

Re: Copypwd with windows storage server 2003 R2 64

I have the same probelm and it is the x64 that is the problem. The program cannot call the 64-bit api:s or they have changed.

The same goes with pwdump and other password audit tools trying to get hashes.

Anyone have a 64-bit program which can get the hashes?

I guess an alternative is to boot offline with ntfs4dos and get the sam and system files. Is the ad included in thoses files?

This may be a problem unique to x64 operating systems, which we can't test on. Another problem with 2003 and Vista is additional security limitations, which can be worked around with another version that we have. If you want to try this other version, send a request to [email protected] and we will provide the url. This other version works differently in that it creates a service, performs the operation, then deletes the service. So its more complicated than the current approach, but gets around the problem of the process not having enough privs.

              hi,

just to say that, the csvde program works fine, it doesn't do what i want. the addusers program (from NT4 ressource kit) also works fine and create my users. the only things i need it's to add the passwd automatically since i get them from my old NT4 server.
And i have just send an email to try your fix program.

This is the error in x64 in a lot of audit programs:
                CreateRemoteThread failed

We have a revised copy of the copypwd utility at:
                          http://www.systemtools.com/download/copypwd2.zip

This version has three (3) files instead of two. The change, which was not done by us, but we have looked at the code, was to create a service to carry out this task. The service is created, the password is changed, and then the service is deleted. The name of the service is 'CopyPwd', so you should not see this in the service listings for a computer that this is run on.

Ideally, it should exist for only a few seconds. Basically you need to ensure that the service is deleted when its done.

Let us know if this fixes the issue.

I have tried to start copyPwd service in win2003 x64, but the process terminated unexpectedly, copypwd can't exit normally yet. I think the new version do not work.

                              same things for me.
There was no error, but nothing else.
The service copypwd is created but never ended.
i try it in dump or set, same result = nothing happen and i have to kill the task by ctrl-C.
                              thanks for any other help.
