Adding local user to network share

Is it possible to add a local user account from a server on the domain to a network share? When try to add it I get the following message:
Error finding a domain controller for domain (server name) The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contatcted. The share information I am trying to add is:
servername\username

You can add the local user account of the server to it's own share/NTFS but not another server.
