  • Copy User information

Since we have migrated from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003, a user copy does not copy all the information from the copied user.
In Exchange 5.5 we copied all the information with Hyena's ExchangeIntegration-Feature. Now we can't copy Adress, telephone, companydetails of the orginal user in AD. Is there way to do this in future? The AD-Wizard don't do it at all!

    Re: Copy User information

You need to edit the schema in order for the other active directory attributes to copy over. There is a tag for each attribute and the fields that used to copy over with 5.5 are different then 2000/3. Main reason is because your now using one information database (active directory) before it was it's own information store which 5.5 held.

I can't find the article just right now but this should help point you in the right direction.

Thanks, that helped me for a few attributes.
The other attributes have to be manipulated first with adsiedit to activate the "copy attribute" checkbox in schema-admin-console.
There are some reasons, not to do this.
Therefore i hope, that hyena makes the copy of the attributes by itself.

        Re: Copy User information

The problem with copying users or anything for that matter is that we can only really copy the elements that most people would want to copy. If we add the AD contact and address information, we will get lots of complaints from users that don't want to copy these things.

One thing that we could do in the future is create a clone option, possibly tied to the new ADSI-edit feature in Hyena, whereby you could visually see all of the attributes and just 'check' the ones that you want to copy.

when do you suppose to implement this feature? It would be a really important feature for us.

This is really hard to say. Its depends on when we can get the next release done (in beta now). At the earliest, it would be October/November.

We are haveing the same problem except for the fact that NONE of the fields are being copied but they do copy when using Microsoft U&C. Do we have something not configured correctly?

Has there been any change made to the way Hyena works in regards to copying a user?

I also have user templates (disabled user accounts that are pre-setup) and it's very annoying to always have to fill out the address and organization information.

                  Re: Copy User information

There havn't been any changes, but I'll revisit some way to copy more attributes. Hyena has never copied AD attributes, but I believe that you can modify the AD schema as outlined in the previous posts to allow the 'wizard' option to copy the attributes.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "wizard" option?

I checked in the Schema console and all of the fields I am interested in: organization tab, address tab, phone number, etc.. are all set to copy when a user is copied.

                      Re: Copy User information

When you select Copy for a user there is a checkbox to Run Active Directory Creation Wizard. Check that and it will use the wizard rather than Hyena's dialogs for the copy.

                        Re: Copy User information

                        Thanks, I got it.

The Hyena user creation process is a little nicer for us, but unfortunately when copying users it doesn't do what we need (as described above) which is unfortunate.

I would love if Hyena is updated to support Active Directory a little better.
