Hi I have set up the Home Directory Templates, and they work fine but now to take it one step further is there a way to setup a template if you will to add a set of groups to all newly created users?

We would like to set up templates with various sets of groups so that the new users would automaticly be added to them.

If there is not a way to do it, then it seems that the next logical step is for me to request that it be added to the home directory template so that the home directory and the groups can be done at the same time.

What you can do is create template user accounts, then when you create new users simply do a Copy rather than an Add New. This will keep group memberships and gives you the home directory capability that you now have with the Add New.

I unsderstand but then how do you set up the home directory and ownership and and and becasue you are copying a user it is not the same as creating a new user....

The home directory templates still work the same way because you are still creating a user. Just make sure that your template user that you are copying has the home directory information on the Profile tab setup the same way as your home directory template.

When you use the Add New, Hyena will fill in the information from the home directory template, but when copying you will need to have the user you are copying configured and Hyena will use that, along with the settings in your home directory template to create the directory, share, etc.

OK that will work I guess if you have one template, we are a fairly large operation here and have many home directory templates, for us and our regional operations, how will Hyena know which template to use if there are many and each one is different? I guess I am concerend that the security get set right and the ownership and such, I do not want to have to visit the server that the home drive is on and have to set the security and ownership and such....

Maybe there is a way to select the groups from an existant user and say the new user needs to be added to those groups....

Under Tools->Settings->Home Dir is a check box: Confirm template prior to usage (when copying users) that you can enable.

Keep in mind that each user template you create can use whatever home directory template you want it to use. Optionally, you can leave that blank and when you create a user fill in the appropriate home directory information.

Again, as long as it matches the format in one of your home directory templates (the one you choose when it prompts you for one), all the template settings will be applied.

Ok I checked the box, I tried copying a user and it did not ask me which template to use? Ideas?
