  • Add permissions for user on another domain

    Hello,

I got a request to add a VP in another domain(recent aquisition) to the 'finance' folder on one of our servers. He wants up to modify permissions on everything under 'finance'

Normally, I'd create a local group on the server in question and add it to the share and any other folders necessary. However, in this case, the share 'finance' has a couple thousand subfolders. One budget area has 1300 subfolders alone. Of course, most of the folders have custom permissions. I've added this VP's other domain accont to the local server administrators group, but that doesn't give him access to "everything".

Short of making him a Domain Admin (really don't want to do that!), does anyone know a way to accomplish this, without, obviously, changing existing permissions.

    Thanks,

You wouldn't be able to do this with Hyena, but you might try a product like NTSEC. It has a utility called igrant.exe that will allow you to add a single user or group to permissions.

Great! Thanks. I'm always willing to jump through a few hoops to solve a problem. Not real sure I've got $995 worth of problems, but I'll see what the demo can do.

Sorry, I didn't notice the price. You might consider trying a cacls/xcacls solution instead.
