  • Computer Properties General Tab

When I try to right click on a computer name and go to properties, then look at the General tab, I don't see the O/S version. It only says "Windows v" Also, in some cases I don't have acccess to the Network tab, this has been corrected by ensuring that browser, messenger, and remoteregister are running. But it does't work in all cases. Any idea on what services need to be running or how to ensure I can see O/S ver and ensure I have access to the computer using Hyena?

    Thanks,

    Re: Computer Properties General Tab

The computer o/s version and the network tab all read from the remote computer's registry and are not related to the browse list or any service. See if you can use Hyena or regedt32 to read from

    HKLM\software\Software\Microsoft\windows nt\currentversion

You may have a permissions issue.

I tried to access the registry via Hyena and I don't have access.

But domain admins is active in the local groups.

I have tried to remote logon to the system and it will not allow me either.

Is there a work-a-round using Hyena to gain access and permissions?

Try using regedt32 to access the remote computer's registry. If it fails, then its a permissions issue and independent of Hyena. You could use Hyena's Logon As function to connect to the remote computer and provide the local computer's admin account and password, or if the computers are part of a domain, make sure that the domain Admins group is part of the local administrator group.

There is also the issue of the remote registry capability depending upon the o/s that these computers are. But if you get Microsoft's utilities to fail, then you should be able to find what Microsoft recommends to get their utilities to work and then Hyena will work too.
