  • Create new users doesn't create share

    Hi,

I'm using User Commander to create new users, which I have done previously, the home folders are being created but the shares are not.

    Here are my settings:

    New Home Directory mask =
    \\servername\%username%

New Share Directory Local Map =
    g:\users\students\ANN\%username%

New Share Directory Remote Mask =
    \\servername\D$\users\students\ANN\%username%

    Hope you can help
    Thanks,

    Mike

In your example you show different drive letters between the two share masks. Was this a typo in your post, or in your configuration? Are you getting any errors?

No I am not getting any errors.

The different drive letters are refering to the mapped drive to the destination server and the actual administrative share.

I am running UC on Server1 which is a DC and the home drives are hosted on Server2 which is not a DC.

Do I need to run this on the server hosting the home drives? That would be the only difference between running it now and when I ran it last year, Server2 used to be a DC and we ran UC on that server.

      Thanks,

      Mike

You don't need to run this from the server, but the drive letter needs to be the same in both the Local and Remote masks. This needs to be the physical drive in the computer. So, if when you are in Explorer on that server you would go to the D: drive, change the local mask to D: instead of G.

Thanks for the clarification, I thought the local mask was refering to the server I was running it on.

I made the change and now I am getting an error. It seems that it is sharing the first homedrive as '%username%' literally and therefor every share after that receives a message that the name has already been shared.

The server hosting the drives is a Windows 2003 Server.

Send a copy of your input file and your ini file to [email protected] so we can see how you have everything configured.
