  • User name field

This isn't a "bug" so much as a question. What is the maximum number of allowed characters in the name field? I just tried to add a user name of 15 characters and got an error. When I shortened it to Gen from Geneveive, no error. Will this ever be changed? Can we change this in settings?

Specifically, which 'name' field is this and are you adding users to a Windows 2000 or Windows NT domain ? And how long do you want the 'name' to be ?

In terms of how long, maybe at least 20 characters.

What version of Hyena are you using ? For NT domains, the limit should be 20 characters. For AD, we set it to 65 as Microsoft has not really documented the upper limit.

I was able to test both of these limits now on a Windows 2000 system.

            Re: User name field

Actually, we were able to duplicate this. Its strange that this has not been caught before. The problem seems to be that when you add a new user, Hyena will set the old NT user account name (samaccountname AD attribute) to be the same as the AD user account name. You can override this behavior by going to the Account tab before adding the new user and manually entering a 20 character or less Pre-Windows 2000 logon name. We'll do some work to force a shorter Pre-W2k account name in under these circumstances.

The problem, of course, is that we have no choice but to truncate the Pre-W2K name to prevent a very strange looking AD error.

              Re: User name field

This problem has been fixed in the next release of v5.7 (beta) and will also be fixed in the next patch to v5.5.

              Thanks for reporting this problem.
