  • Share user's Home Directory folder

How do you share a newly created user's home directory folder during the user creation process in Hyena? The the Home Directory folder is created, the profile folder gets created and the user permissions are all assigned correctly. I just can't get the user's Home Directory folder to be shared. I want to create a hidden share like %username$%

    Thanks

What are the settings that you currently have on your Home Directory Template? You'll need to configure the information on the right side, and your new Home Directory Mask will be in the format of \\server\%username%

      Home Directory Mask
      \\servername\users$\%username%

      Share Directory Local Mask
      E:\Users\%username%

      Share Directory Remote Mask
      \\servername\E$\Users\%username%

Re: Share user's Home Directory folder

If I am correct all I need to do is change

        \\servername\E$\Users\%username%

        to

        \\servername\E$\Users\%username$%

and this will create the hidden share on the user's Home Directory folder?

No, change your New Home Directory Mask to:

          \\server\%username%$

Leave the other two the way you have them.

Re: Share user's Home Directory folder

I guess I don't understand here then. The home directory folder is created correctly but it is not shared. I want to share it and make the share hidden. What you describe here will do this? I don't have to change any of the share properties?
How would I add permission to the share? I would like to add the local server administrators group as a share permission. Domain groups and %username% are not hard to add. Just dont know how to add a local server group to the share permission.

Re: Share user's Home Directory folder

Have you made the change recommended above, and then tested it?

To set the permissions the way you want you will use the two Security Settings boxes on the home directory template. The left side is NTFS permissions for the directory, and the right side will set share security.

For local groups try entering just the group name.

Re: Share user's Home Directory folder

Putting the $ in the New Home Directory Mask like this.

                \\servername\users$\%username%$

Creates a user directory like this
                AA_BBB$ = Name of folder.

so the $ must be inside the % signs im guessing. I will test again in this way.

It has to be exactly like I showed above or it won't work. Go ahead and send your phone number to [email protected] so I can call you on this.

This did not work either. I ended up with a home dir called %username$%. So at present I still cant create the hidden share on the user's home dir.

Re: Share user's Home Directory folder

                      Here's the resolution.

In the New Home Directory mask put in the following.

                      \\servername\%username%$

                      instead of

                      \\servername\users$\%username%

This creates the share that points to the share directory local and remote masks on the right.
                      --------------------------------------------
Hope this helps you as it did me.

Thanks for the prompt support systemtools!

Just one more reason I know I made the right decision with Hyena.
