  • moving a SID

I am in the process of evaluating Hyena and am trying to determine if it can do the following:

    1) Move local user accounts to another server while maintaining the SID
    2) Move a directory structure to another server while maintaining the security structure (ACLs)

At present it doesn't appear that Hyena will move the SID or ACL. Is this true?

That is correct that Hyena won't do either of these for you. You might consider something like Secure Copy from SmallWonders.com.

      Re: moving a SID

SmallWonders.com would be the place to look at the best options for this. Unless you use some unique software to 'clone' the SID from one computer to the next, there isn't any way to create a new user/group and have it have the same SID as it is on another computer. The software products that let you migrate users or security settings from one computer to another simple do a search-and-replace function on the copied data; the SIDs are still changed
