  • Renaming user accounts after an ADC accident

    Hello,

We had an 'accident' where the Exchange 5.5 ADC sent bad information to AD and changed the Display and Directory names. Now we are in a position where we need to change a few users logon names. Hyena used to manage renaming the home folder automaticly, un and resharing it. Now it seems impossible to rename the logon name, only the directory name. WHen we do this, the ability for Hyena to rename the home folder doesn't come up anymore. There is a manual process it gives us.

Why would changing the Directory name cause us to lose the ability to rename the actual account login?

    TIA,

    Jaymz

I'm not quite following the problem with this. By login do you mean the Pre-W2K Logon Name?

To rename a user you can right-click on the user and choose Rename. Type in the new name, and then you will be prompted to change the home directory information. On the screen that comes up for that you can change Directory Name, Display Name, User Logon, Home Directory, etc.

I do mean the prewin2k logon name. I understand when renaming an account you can change the home directory. Howebver, this assumes you have a home directory created with the new name.

Our accounts all have home directories of \\server\%username%$

Hyena used to prompt us when renaming an account with two questions. SOmething in effect to "Hyena will now rename the users home directory, do you want to continue?" (yes)
"Do you want Hyena to reshare the directory with the new name etc etc"

      It doesn't do that anymore...

Using the steps above, this will rename the share and the directory information for you.

It will take you're \\server\%username%$ and replace the %username% with the new name. When you click OK it will ask if you want to reshare the new directory with the new sharename.

Hyena sorts users by directory name by default, which AD attribute is that exposing?

          Thanks,

It is actually the Directory Name in AD. If you ADU&C, it is the top name listed on the General tab.

We had the same problem in our domain when we first turned on the connector. We even had a call to MS about this abortion. Let me give you a couple of heads up. All those hidden accounts, they were replicated out into AD because the connector uses the exchange information over the NT info. You might need to make modifications to the connector so that everything matches up. For instance, right now. I go into the exchange 5.5 and change the display name, it then will overright the directory name. They have the display name in 5.5 linked to the AD directory name. We had to turn the connector off in order to clean house, then we re engaged it. Just remember that the hidden accounts will get linked in AD and if there is no account, it will create an account.
