Sending Messages to Workstations

A great - and frustrating - feature of Hyena is the ability to send out messages to warn users of coming downtime. While it works, it seems to hang on workstations that are unresponsive. In my case, however, I'm only sending to units on the local site, so if I don't get a rapid response, the system should give up and move on. I sent a note out this morning warning of system downtime @ 9:30 - and some folks received it @ 9:40. (I initiated the send @ 9:15!) We're only talking 150 workstations...

Is there a Hyena setting or registry entry that can reduce the retry attempts or timing? Thanks!

At this time there is nothing that can be done, but we will look into adding an option at a future date to help with this.

The only short-term option might be for you to write your own script to check if the computer is up first (by a ping or something), then sending a message to it if it responds.

are there any news regarding this problem? when will be a fix released for it? I really need this feature and its really frustrating and unusable with the actual version.

Hyena now has a Ping option that you can enable that can skip computers that don't respond to the ping request. This can speed up the process quite a bit.

You can enable this under Tools->Settings->View.

I have never been able to get Send Message to work most likely from runing "ShootTheMessenger" app which terminates the Message service for security reasons.
