Hyena won't do this for you, but our User Commander utility will:

Hi, I downloaded User Commander and read through the help section. I didn't see mention of AD. I am hoping that it can copy users and groups from an NT4 domain and put them into a W2k domain with password intact - is that the case?

      Thanks!

It can create the accounts for you, but won't be able to copy the passwords. If that is an issue, you can use our free CopyPwd utility for the passwords:

I hope its OK to post User Commander questions here - I didn't see a special section for it. Thanks for your answers!

It doesn't look like *copying* users and groups from one domain to the other will be a good solution for me because our NT4 domain has so many users and groups that should NOT come across to the W2K domain and I can't see a way to filter out the excess(all the groups I want begin with S)or a way to pick and choose which groups that I want. So I think that the way to do it is extract to a file, clean it up and then import into W2K.

But here is where I get stuck. When I try to import group members from a text file, I get an error saying the group itself doesn't exist. But I couldn't see how to import just the group names from text files. It looks like the only way to get the groups is from direct copying from the NT4 domain?? I didn't try copying from the other server because that would create a real mess of unwanted groups. Any suggestions for getting groups to import from text?

The password program will be a great help.

One thing to consider is using Hyena, filtering for the groups you need, and then doing the copy from Hyena.

Since they begin with an S, you can double-click on Global Groups (or Local) to display them in the right window, click the Filter toolbar icon, and type in S* in the text box above the group name column.

This will leave you with the groups that begin with an S, and you can select the ones you want, then right-click and choose Copy.

Woohooo! I just copied all the users and all the groups from one of our NT4 sites to our new W2K AD domain!! Using Hyena! It was a snap!! The groups were all populated correctly and everything. In the morning I'll get the passwords over. All I have to do now is xcopy over their home directories and run a script against them to turn them into shares and grant permissions. Then the rest of the data needs permissions granted too but they were a mess before and need to be redone.

You guys have the most terrific program. I never cease to be impressed with all that it can do!

              Big Thanks!
