  • Unable to add user: "... duplicate name ..."

    Hello,

Creating a new user produces error: "Unable to access user policies on <W2K domain name>. A duplicate name exist on the network." The error comes up in second screen after entering OU location.

Creating accounts with MMC isn't a problem.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks, Mark

What version of Hyena are you running?

I'm not really sure what this message means, but it happens when Hyena is getting your domain SID information and this prevents a user from being added. Please verify what happens when you right click on a domain controller for this domain and select "Account Policy". Do you get the same error ?

The error seems to imply that there is another computer/SID out there that is a duplicate ? Is that in any way possible ?

No problem gettin DC Account policy.

Its a small AD with about 1000 objects and average amount of machine and user account creation/deletion (10/week) using standard tools. So its not clear how a duplicate could be created.

The Account Policy function gets a different set of information but uses the same function. Something is wrong on either the local computer (or the remote computer) to cause this error. Unfortunately, we can't debug it since the error is coming from the API and not Hyena. If you have any other computers, you might try installing Hyena on another computer. That would isolate the problem to a client vs. server problem.

If you find the cause, please let us know. In the meantime, Hyena will not allow you to add or modify users as long as this error is returned.

Sorry that I can't be of more help.
